Bill Russell

Jah bless to everyone as always. It’s a new a day and a new time to improve as always. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from the destiny you know is in store for you. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me as well. It means more than you know. Today is also emancipation day, so I’ll be talking about that also this week. Right now I just want to give flowers and respect to the late great Bill Russell.

Bill Russell to me is the epitome of an athlete using his Basketball success to better everyone especially my people in a time when we needed it the most. He is considered to be one of the best basketball players of all time. He was the center piece of the Boston Celtic Dynasty which won 11 championships including 8 in a row ! He was a 5 time mvp during this time and also won a gold medal.

He was a trailblazer for the whole NBA. You have to understand he was doing all this through the 50s and 60s. His basketball accolades are one thing, but his work off the court is what will be remembered the most. He still went through segregation even still being denied to stay in certain hotels in the south. At one point during an exhibition game where his black teammates and him where refused service , they decided not play and fly home bringing national awareness to the deep segregation issues in the south. He was heavily involved in the Black Panther Party, and supported leaders like Muhammad Ali at the “Cleveland Summit “ where Bill came to the aid of Ali when Ali was refusing to go to war at the time.

Bill Russell was the first black player drafted and also became the first black coach ever when he was hanged the coaching job from Red Auerbach who was his coach and amazing mentor. Bill did so much for our community during and after his career that it would take 3 of these post to even scratch the service. I just wanted to bring awareness to our amazing leader that went to Zion. Thank you Bill. Your the true pioneer !
